Signaling as a Service
Sau atractivitatea noastra in fata sexului opus.
“Signaling can be broken down into signal message, distribution and amplification. “Real world” products are great at visualising a signal message due to their physical nature. However, as a consequence there are also physical boundaries to distribution because there are only so many people you can signal to at once.”
“The financially most lucrative strategy for software companies is to provide distribution for free and instead monetize users who want to stand out of the crowd with paid signal amplification.”

Despre puterea credintei de a ne afecta (in bine sau rau) sanatatea fizica:
“We were struggling to increase drug effects while no one was trying to increase the placebo effect.”
“The placebo effect couldn’t kill viruses or excise tumors, but it had incredible power to make “real” medicine even better.”
“So placebos aren’t multidimensional-quantum-crystal-healing-magic: they’re a normal process that leverages the body’s natural painkillers in some way that modern medicine did not yet understand.”
“Buying an individual stock while it’s down bad isn’t the same as buying an index that’s down bad. As I’ve written about previously, when it comes to buying an asset or basket of assets following a large decline, you only need two pieces of information to determine whether you should buy: (1) the percentage gain needed to reach a new all-time high, and (2) an estimate for how long it will take to reach those new highs. But here is where things break down between buying an individual company that has declined a lot and buying an index that has declined a lot—there is no guarantee that the individual company will ever recover.”

“Google and the World Brain” (8/10) un documentar interesant despre moralitatea si legalitatea proiectului Google Books, prezentand obiectiv istoria proiectului, procesele si luptele declansate si argumentele ambelor tabere.
